Urine Specimen Pots

As of the 1st June 2017, we are no longer providing urine sample pots. If you need to provide a specimen and are seeing a clinician you will be provided with a disposable specimen pot. However, if you require a specimen pot for anything else, you will need to purchase a specimen pot from your local pharmacy or provide the specimen in a sterile container.

The Luton and Dunstable Hospital have recently changed their guidance regarding urine sample pots. They will only accept boric acid (red top) for specimens being sent to the hospital lab for processing however, if a sample is provided in the white top sample bottles, it will be rejected by the lab. However, if the clinician urine dip's the sample, this can only be done in a white topped bottle which isn't provided by the hospital anymore. We cannot urine dip a sample in a boric acid (red top) sample bottle as it will provide us with a false reading.

If you are a diabetic patient, you will still be provided with the monovette urine sample kits for your annual review.
